Akhenaten was an ancient Egyptian pharoah that is noted for abandoning Egypt’s polytheism and introduced the worship of Atenism, or worship that was centered around Aten.
Akhenaten was married to Nefertiti and was the father of Tutankhamun.
After his death, Akhenaten’s monuments were dismantled and hidden, his statues were destroyed and his name was excluded from lists compiled by later pharoahs. Traditional religious practices were gradually restored under Tutankhamun who later changed his name from Tutankhaten.
